High blood pressure is potentially deadly. If it is detected early enough, though, it’s debilitating effects can be alleviated. Heart attack or stroke can be prevented or at least postponed if a condition of high blood pressure is detected. When it is diagnosed then treatment and lifestyle changes can begin.

The first problem we have with detecting the signs of high blood pressure is that usually there are no signs. That’s why it is often referred to as ‘the silent killer’

If there are no signs that you have high blood pressure then there doesn’t appear to be any reason to do doing anything about finding out. So this is the dilemma. How to diagnose high blood pressure when there are no symptoms. Actually modern science has given us a very easy way, but more of that later.

The Signs Of High Blood Pressure are Vague

Some people may experience signs of high blood pressure but they could be slight and easily attributable to other things.
A headache is a common sign except, of course, the sufferer may just judge it to be ‘just one of those things’ and take a pain killer. Shortness of breath, lightheadedness and vision problems could also be signs of high blood pressure. And they might not. In any case it will do no harm to visit a doctor and get it checked out.

So What If I Have No Signs Of High Blood Pressure?

In general there are no reliable signs of high blood pressure. So what to do? Well most pharmacies and public health offices will do a blood pressure check for you and of course your own doctor should do one on every visit. These days there is a very simple and inexpensive way of keeping an eye on the whole families blood pressure. Your own automatic blood pressure meter. Every first aid kit should have one of these. They are very simple to operate. You simply put the cuff on your arm as described and push the button. The cuff will automatically inflate and then deflate just as the doctor does using the old fashioned sphygmomanometer, and give you reading. Armed with one of these you will have no need to rely on vague or worry about the nonexistent signs of high blood pressure. You can take charge of your own destiny and maybe save yourself from having a heart attack or stroke. Money well spent, I think. As soon as you can see that your blood pressure is a bit high for most of the time go straight to your health practitioner for remedial treatment. As for signs of high blood pressure, you can’t get much clearer.

I have one of these meters.

It will help you detect the signs of high blood pressure.

Cardiovascular disease is the prime cause for death in Spain. Arterial hypertension is the common cardiovascular disease. Nearly one quarter of adults as well as over half of the people over 60 experience arterial hypertension. This refers to the increase of the arterial blood pressure more than the universally recommended values. Though these recommended values are constantly being revised, the arterial hypertension surely affects many. A diagnosis of arterial hypertension is important as the arterial pressure differs a lot. The arterial hypertension involves cardiovascular risk factors such as researching on the causes of hypertension, evaluating the blood vessels damage as well as organs such as brain, kidney and heart. There are genetic analysis also for this damage.

Arterial hypertension influences several organs as well as systems. This indicates that the treatment and evaluation require unison efforts of specialist’s team of different fields so that they get a global overview of the actual situation of the patient. This study demands to be performed in unique specialized units that are well- equipped with technical means and are as well staffed by well-trained professionals. Hypertension causes a slow as well as progressive damage to the blood vessels in the entire body. There are chances of affecting vital organs such as brain, heart and kidney. It causes the heart to work harder while the arteries support a higher pressure causing hemorrhages, memory loss, thrombosis, paralysis and cognitive impairment.

The cardiovascular research is being done to improve the quality of life, to provide best solutions and to recover the lost time. Arterial hypertension is an ailment that you should be aware of it at the earliest so that if necessary, proper steps can be taken to control. It can be viewed and treated so that you are not killed as silent killer. The treatment that is recommended is to prevent this ailment from occurring. This is considered to be ideal treatment and so knowing the details and the risk factors associated with the lifestyle of the patient is vital. It is not a daunting task to control arterial blood pressure. It is essential to accomplish objectives of the treatment and the prevention programs. The arterial hypertension treatment aims in decreasing the blood pressure and also involves in periodic as well as long term monitoring other factors in this disease evolution. This is done to accomplish good efficacy. The arterial hypertension is treated only after appropriate as well as personalized evaluation. This can be controlled with appropriate measures on hygiene, diet, medications and exercise.

Heart disease is the second leading cause of death worldwide and much of this is caused by high blood pressure or, as it also known as, hypertension.

Although there are quite a few things we can do to reduce the likelihood of developing symptoms of high blood pressure, there are other things that are out of our control. All of us when we’re born have a genetic pre-disposition to certain difficulties, including high blood pressure.
As we ripen with age, we can also improve, but sometimes the bodily functions begin to decline.

When the arteries begin to harden it makes the heart rate increase, causing the blood flow to increase as well and so the heart has to work harder for the body to receive the oxygen and nutrients it needs to survive.

Blurry vision or ‘floaters’ can also be a result of having hypertension.
Sporadic nosebleeds may seem to have no reason to occur if we don`t have allergies and have suffered no obvious injury to the nasal cavity.
All of these symptoms are vague in nature and none of these are necessarily indicative of high blood pressure, but could be.

Men are assumed to be the ones usually afflicted with high blood pressure, but that is not the necessarily the case.
In fact at least 50% of the people with high blood pressure are thought to be women. These numbers prove that women are becoming more suseptable to the disease than before.
Women might notice the initial warning signs while taking birth control medications or during pregnancy.

High blood pressure doesn’t have to have a complicated cause and can merely be hereditary. Some of the least pleasant high blood pressure symptoms include breathlessness while lying down, general shortness of breath and urinary dysfunction, which includes the presence of blood in the urine.

High blood pressure affects our hearts as well as other functions of our body which can end up being fatal in the long run. The arties will harden over time, causing the blood pressure to skyrocket and if this spiral is out of control, the kidneys will fail to produce urine and the brain will hemorrhage.

In the end no matter our gender, we are all susceptible to this condition.

Because there are no real symptoms apart from the vague ones outlined above, we feel fine and are likely to ignore the need to visit a doctor’s office when we should be doing the opposite. Staying on top of our well-being is the best way to avoid paying the highest price.
One way of doing this is to invest in a blood pressure monitor.

In the absence of symptoms of high blood pressure a BP monitor will keep you apprised of what it really is without having to go to the doctor, unless the reading is constantly high of course!

This is the monitor I use is an Omron HEM-790IT

Hypertension relates to high blood pressure and is known to cause primary or essential hypertension. Such types of high blood pressure is common and reacts in changing the lifestyle such as basically reducing weight, exercise, dietary changes as well as stress reduction. Hypertension natural therapy brings blood pressure into normal range. However, the lifestyle changes should be maintained constantly and any changes will make the hypertension return immediately. Secondary hypertension cause due to kidney disease or in the pregnancy stages and hence must be monitored by the physician. Hypertensive people can decrease their blood pressure simply through nutritional changes by increasing the vegetable and fruits quantity and decreasing cholesterol and fat. This reduces the blood pressure and also weight loss.

Hypertension natural therapy indicates eating unprocessed, fresh and unrefined foods. Including vegetables, fruits, onion, garlic, beans, soy, nuts, whole grains, seeds, cold water fish and olive oil is also mandatory. People reducing the intake of sodium salt also can reduce the blood pressure to a great extent. This works better when accompanied by potassium increase intake. This involves not eating processed foods as the sodium content is high. Avoiding sugar, salt, dairy products, fried foods, refined foods, caffeine and junk foods is best. Using a challenge diet and eliminating food sensitivities is ideal. Drink maximum water daily.

Supplements provide great nutritional support. This is the recommended dosage and may or may not be suitable for everyone. Hence consulting your physician is essential. Herbal medicines have no side effects if it is taken appropriately in definite doses. Sometimes, it may cause stomach upset or headache. This also reflects the added ingredients in purity such as fillers and synthetic binders. Overdosing of any medication leads to serious illness and also to death. However, herbs are wonderful to treat hypertension, but if you take large doses you are sure to have side effects. Hypertension natural therapy is of immense use but should be taken with the consultation of your physician. Coleus forskohlii decreases blood pressure and the heart function improves, Hawthorne dilates coronary blood vessels and this reduces the blood pressure, Mistletoe gives tolerance and Rauwolfia is powerful and even a small dose accomplishes results. The common side effect is nasal congestion.

Appropriate homeopathic medicines help in moving the body as well as the mind towards healing activities. Any trained practitioner in homeopathy can easily identify and can suggest a deep constitutional remedy. Hypertension natural therapy is the best as it has all natural products with fewer side effects. Though, the process takes a longer time to cure, it cures from the root.

The normal medical treatment for high blood pressure will involve some form of hypertensive drug. There are several varieties and it may be possible that you will be prescribed all of them. None of these treatments is perfect and you may experience high blood pressure medication side effects. If you do experience side effects and they are troubling you, consult your medical practitioner because there are ways of minimising the effects.

Diuretics

On of the high blood pressure medication side effects from this form of medication is to reduce the amount of potassium in your blood stream. This can result in feeling weak or tired all the time and leg cramps. This particular manifestation of high blood pressure medication side effects can be helped by replacing the potassium, either by a diet high in potassium or with supplements.

Another very painful form of high blood pressure medication side effects is gout. A very painful inflammation of a joint, usually in the big toe. Personally I find a supplement of celery and juniper tablets keeps this particular member of the high blood pressure medication side effects family at bay.

If you are a diabetic, then another possible one of the high blood pressure medication side effects could be an increase in your blood sugar levels. Monitor this carefully and report any adverse findings to your health practitioner.

Beta-Blockers

Beta- blockers have the effect of slowing the heart rate and reducing the power of heart. Fine for lowering blood pressure but it does lead to a variety of high blood pressure medication side effects. You may get cold hands and feet or you may feel depressed or frequently tired. Asthma, insomnia and impotence may well also show themselves as high blood pressure medication side effects. Diabetics who are on insulin need to monitor the effects of this class of drugs. As always report any adverse high blood pressure medication side effects to your health care practitioner.

ACE Inhibitors and Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers

A nasty cough is one of the most common high blood pressure medication side effects of this class of drug, however it can usually be fixed by changing brands. Loss of taste, a skin rash and on rare occasions kidney damage are also possible. Occasionally angiotensin II receptor blockers can make you dizzy, so be aware of this walking or traveling alone.

Alpha Blockers and Combined Alpha and Beta-Blockers

Again these classes of drugs may have high blood pressure medication side effects including dizziness when standing up. This particular effect could be considered good because it means your BP is nice and low. Just be aware of it and don’t stand up too quickly.

Whatever high blood pressure medication side effects you may be experiencing consult with your health practitioner about the best way to minimise them and remember that the high blood pressure medication side effects you are having are probably preferable exposing yourself to the dangers associated with hypertension.

You can keep an eye on your blood pressure at home quickly and easily with an inexpensive BP monitor. (See sidebar to left)

Ocular hypertension refers to situations dealing with eye pressure. This eye pressure is called as intraocular pressure. This pressure refers to being higher than normal. Eye pressure is normally measured in millimeters of mercury. The normal eye pressure ranges within 10-21mm Hg. Eye pressure that is more than 21 mm Hg is referred to as Ocular hypertension. Ocular hypertension is expressed as a condition having an intraocular pressure of over 21mm Hg and is calculated measuring one or both the eyes on some occasions. The pressure inside the eye is measured using Tonometer. Ocular hypertension is not regarded as a disease. But, people affected with ocular hypertension should be considered closely than other people for glaucoma. Another term referred to augment intraocular pressure is known as glaucoma. A suspect of glaucoma is a person who is of more concern, so the ophthalmologist may look for glaucoma developments constantly owing to the increased pressure inside the eyes.
Increased intraocular pressure results from eye conditions. Ocular hypertension refers to elevated intraocular pressure without inflicting any vision loss or nerve damage. The occurrence of Glaucoma is seen only when the pressure is increased and the optic nerve gets damaged and the chances of vision loss becomes apparent. However, though your optic nerve seems to be normal, assessing or determining the eye pressure should be done by a medical doctor specialized in surgery and eye care. A doctor specialized in eye care is known as ophthalmologist and he assesses the drainage system is closed or open. The assessment of the eye drainage system is called as angle. This angle is viewed using a system called gonioscopy. This system involves using special contact lens for examining the drainage angles of your eyes. This helps in assessing the drainage angle when the eyes are open or closed.
Recent studies show that signs of damage owing to glaucomatous are slowly increasing over years. This risk can be reduced if the pressure of eye is decreased with the help of medications. This treatment can be done prior to vision loss. Patients having thin corneas are prone to higher risk. It is also observed that women are at greater risk than men, especially after menopause. The risk of glaucomatous damage arises in any person older than 40 years for both primary open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. However, though elevated pressure is a matter of concern for young people, there is adequate time to get exposed to increased level of pressures over their lifetime as well as towards the optic nerve damage.

Problems with blood pressure pregnancy can expose the mother and the fetus to several complications. High blood pressure is a serious and life threatening condition and in the U.S., between 6% and 8% of all women have blood pressure problems during pregnancy.

Some women are at a greater risk of getting high blood pressure while pregnant than others.this problem can occur especially:

if you are under 20 or over 40,

if you were obese before the pregnancy,

if you are carrying more than one baby,

if you have conditions that cause high blood pressure such as lupus and kidney ailments

if you had chronic hypertension before the pregnancy.

That’s not to say that there will be problem if you are in a risk group. Many of the women who have babies while suffering from high blood pressure deliver healthy babies.
You should start controlling your high blood pressure the moment you decide you want to have a baby.
Most of the measures taken to control of blood pressure are also important in preventing and curing other conditions diabetes, for example.

The usual way of controlling high blood pressure is with medication, however, you should talk to your medical practitioner before you become pregnant because some medications are unsafe for pregnancies.
You can also stabilize high blood pressure by exercising to reduce your weight or by taking natural medications or with diet.

Note that all methods used to control high blood pressure before the pregnancy are also used to control the blood pressure while pregnant and to prevent high blood pressure in the first place.
Dieting is an important factor in controlling high blood pressure before and after the pregnancy. The diet should be low in sodium – most of the sodium we consume is found in table salt. You should avoid processed foods and instead go for whole grains. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, saturated fats and eat plenty of vegetables and fruits.

There are also many herbal preparations that can assist in reducing blood pressure.

Some women get preeclampsia in the 20th week of the pregnancy or thereabouts and this will usually lead to gestational hypertension in women who were healthy before the pregnancy. Gestational hypertension can be controlled just like the high blood pressure that was evident before the pregnancy.

Even though you are controlling high blood pressure, be on the lookout for low blood pressure.
This will help you better manage the condition.
You should always have a blood pressure monitor to keep track of your BP and to avoid constant visits to your doctor.
Knowing your blood pressure is important for a healthy pregnancy and indeed for a healthy life.

The best way to prevent hypertension (high blood pressure) is to maintain a healthy weight, don’t smoke and do eat sensibly. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit and in spite of what the dairy industry may tell you, dairy is not an essential food group and should be avoided because of the fat content. Foods low in sodium chloride, (processed salt) are best. The body does require some salt but it should be sea salt or similar that is balanced with other minerals. Alcohol is is slightly contentious. Many doctors recommend a small amount, say a couple of standard drinks a day because at that level it can act as a relaxant. Any more that it can actually cause a rise in blood pressure so some doctors would say don’t touch it.

Here are some steps you can take to help prevent hypertension

Get into a healthy eating pattern. Research has shown that getting into to a healthy eating pattern reduces the risk of getting high blood pressure and can help in lowering a preexisting high blood pressure.

Although the body does require some salt to function, the western diet has far too much in it. Be aware of how much salt you take in especially in processed foods. Eat unprocessed foods and use salt in the form of sea salt or similar that is not just sodium chloride and contains other natural minerals and salts. Not consuming excess salt will help control high blood pressure.

Obesity will result in high blood pressure (hypertension). As soon as body weight increases, so does blood pressure. Just losing 10 pounds (4.5 kilos) will decrease the blood pressure of an overweight hypertensive person.

Become physically active. A sedentary lifestyle will tend to result in increased blood pressure. Just walking 4 or 5 kilometers (2.5 miles) a day would be a big help.

Alcohol intake, as I said before, can be a contentious issue. Just one or two glasses of wine, or equivalent, per day can help relaxation some medical practitioners say. On the other hand any thing more than that on a regular basis will cause stress to the kidneys and liver as well as damage to the brain. Also remember that alcoholic drinks contain calories and so will tend to increase your weight. Step 5 then is to drink in moderation, two drinks a day for men and one for women.

Smoking is disastrous to health. It damages the walls of the blood vessels and promotes hardening of the arteries. Hardened inflexible arteries increases blood pressure. Apart from high blood pressure, smoking causes a whole variety of cancers in the lungs, mouth, throat, pancreas, this list goes on and on. Step 6 is simple DON’T SMOKE!

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of the major killers today. There are no symptoms. Unless you monitor you blood pressure you won’t know you have it. It will kill you silently with no warning.

To sum up, don’t smoke, eat properly, excercise and drink in moderation. If you do this you are well on your way to prevent hypertension.

Oh .. and get a blood pressure monitor. They’re inexpensive and very easy to use.

There are many ways of controlling high blood pressure and for preventing it, medical and natural. But going on a diet for high blood pressure in conjunction with exercise is the preferred method.

Dieting is important because unlike medication, there is no risk of side effects.

Medicines are made from synthetic substances and since our bodies are designed to ingest organic substances only, side effects are inevitable.

Dieting gives permanent results while some medicines do not. Dieting also solves other health problems associated with being overweight and obese such as diabetes. Another advantage of dieting to control and prevent high blood pressure is that it is inexpensive, but for the best results, you should combine different approaches.

To prevent or control high blood pressure, you should eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for their vitamins.

Your diet should be rich in vitamins and so you should eat fresh fruits and veggies of different colors.

Fish is high in protein and other nutrients, it is low in saturated fats and it is high in omega-3 fatty acids, making it the best animal product to control and prevent high blood pressure.
You should drink celery juice since it has several anti-inflammatory agents, flaxseed oil since it is also rich in omega-3, olive oil since it is proven to combat high and low blood pressure and cucumber, which hydrates the arteries.

Ensure that the food you take is cholesterol free.
Develop the habit of checking the packaging for the ingredients when buying food.

Make sure your diet is rich in potassium and only eat whole grains. Other foods that can help with high blood pressure are green tea and honey.

Just as important as knowing the foods you should eat to control high blood pressure or to prevent it, is knowing the foods you should avoid. You should reduce alcohol consumption if you are at risk and you should avoid alcohol altogether if you have high blood pressure.

Equally dangerous is high amounts of sodium, found in large quantities in table salt, because it directly raises the blood pressure and causes damage to the heart.

You should avoid the consumption of saturated fats such as trans-fats since they clog the blood vessels, meaning they not only make your high blood pressure worse, they also cause other cardiovascular ailments.

Caffeine stimulates the gland responsible for the release of adrenaline and cortisol and blocks the effect of the hormone responsible for the widening of blood vessels, thereby leading to high blood pressure.

You should avoid refined sugars as they are converted into fat and these fats clog your heart and your blood vessels.

By being conscious of your diet and eating and drinking the right things you should be able to stabilise and control your high blood pressure.

Going on a diet for high blood pressure can be very effective.

Zantac is a drug that slows down the production of the gastrointestinal acid that your stomach makes. It is used mainly to control and respond to peptic ulcers in the stomach and intestines. Zantac or ranitidine, it’s common name, can also be used to manage gastroesophageal reflux disease, (GERD) and other ailments where the acid backs up into the esophagus from the stomach resulting in a painful condition known as heart burn. Although actual heart problems can be mistaken as heart burn, it’s really a misnomer because it has nothing to do with the heart.

Your physician could also prescribe Zantac for other ailments other than those outlined here. Before your general practitioner prescribes you any new drug, make sure you inform him or her of the other medications you are currently taking to make sure they don’t clash with each other.

The usual formulation of Zantac is as effervescent tablets that you will need to add with water to ingest. Others are in tablet or capsule style while the Zantac dose for children is in liquid form.

Some people have expressed concerns about any relationship between Zantac and high blood pressure. I’ll get to that shortly.

Zantac has many possible side effects that you need to draw to the awareness of your health practitioner as soon as you notice them. These don’t effect everybody, in fact they are not that common. Among these are chest pain, fever, green or yellowish cough discharge and shortness of breath, as well as bruising easily, bleeding and an unusual feeling of weakness . Blurred eye sight is another possible symptom. You wouldn’t have them all together, of course, but if you experience any of them consult your medical practitioner immediately.

Other possible serious side effects of Zantac are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, jaundice, low grade fever, appetite loss and clay coloured stool. If you experience any of these, see your doctor.

The effects of Zantac and High Blood Pressure

The main adverse effect that can be experienced with the combination of Zantac and high blood pressure is an increased heart rate. This, whilst not actually raising blood pressure, increases stress on the vascular system. If you are hypertensive and your high blood pressure is not properly controlled then an increased heart rate could have a damaging effect.
If you know you are hypertensive, it is important to monitor the effect on you of the combination of Zantac and high blood pressure.

I recommend that every family should have its own blood pressure monitor. That way you’ll be able to keep track of not only your blood pressure but also your heart rate. They are not very expensive and very simple to use.

At the top of the left column is a picture of the one I use. Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff
